Billiken Baseball hosted their annual First Pitch dinner on Thursday, January 17 at Lorenzini’s in Chaifetz Arena. This year’s special guest, St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt, was one of nearly 150 attendees for the event.
Following dinner, Billikens Athletic Director Chris May introduced head coach Darin Hendrickson to give a state of the program address to the audience. Hendrickson then handed the microphone off to Fox Sports Midwest broadcaster Dan MacLaughlin to lead over an hour of question and answers with Shildt.
“Having Mike Shildt deliver a powerful message of humbleness, humility and vulnerability, combined with competitiveness, is in line with our programs core beliefs,” Hendrickson said. “He was a great speaker in conjunction with Dan MacLaughlin’s partnership, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have, what I consider, our best First Pitch Dinner yet.”
To close out the yearly event, MacLaughlin listed the silent auction winners and hosted a live auction for a few of his donated items.
Hendrickson couldn’t have been happier with how the dinner turned out, saying, “Our crowd was very honored to hear the manager of one of the premier franchises in all of sports, and SLU is very lucky to share in that event providing a world class delivery to the community.”
