ST. LOUIS – Maura Jacobs, a former standout goalkeeper from American University, has been tabbed the Billikens' assistant coach.
"I am grateful to come alongside Coach Baumgardner and this team of incredible women as they continue their pursuit of excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community," Jacobs said. "I am excited to support an amazing head coach and contribute to this program's continued mission to develop individuals as both players and people. Thank you to the players, coaches, and administration for welcoming me in to the SLU family."
A December 2018 graduate from American in Washington, D.C., Jacobs was one of the top goalkeepers in school and Patriot League history. She closed her career with 214 saves, a 1.63 goals against average and a .702 save percentage. Jacobs was named the 2018 Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Year and was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week eight times throughout her career. She helped the Eagles to the Patriot League championship in 2016 and a win in the NCAA Tournament that year.
Just as impressive as Jacobs' accomplishments on the field are those that came off of it. She was a two-time Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year and three-time Patriot League All-Academic team selection. Jacobs served as President of American University's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) from 2017-18.
"Maura's experience at American has prepared her significantly for her role here at SLU," SLU Head Coach Danielle Baumgardner said. "Because of her maturity, genuine care for others, and work ethic, she is a natural leader and choice for this role. Maura's unique goalkeeping expertise will immediately impact our entire defensive unit. Most importantly, it is extremely evident that Maura has a very strong foundation that will allow her to serve as a role model for all of our student-athletes. I am looking forward to working alongside her on a daily basis."
A native of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, Jacobs earned a bachelor's in Public Relations and Strategic Communications from American University. She is working toward a master's in Student Personnel Administration at SLU.
