Saint Louis took two tough losses to Creighton in their mid-week games on Tuesday and Wednesday, dropping their 2019 record to 6-9.

Right fielder Jake Garella raised his batting average to .333 on the season after going 5-9 in the series against Creighton. He leads the team with 21 hits, seven going for doubles. The right fielder is also tied for the team lead with 11 runs scored.

Sophomore Zach Frieling hit his second home run of the season on Tuesday against the Bluejays. He is tops on the team in that category, and the infielder is third on the Billikens with a .288 average.

Shane Benes added two more RBIs to his season total this week, bringing him to 12 on the year. The cleanup hitter is second on the team with five doubles.

Colin Townsend has had a very successful start to the season out of the bullpen for the Billikens. He finds himself throwing for a 2.12 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 17.0 innings pitched.

Also coming into games in relief has been Charlie Sheehan. The junior righty has struck out 15 batters in 13.0 innings, leading to a 2.77 ERA.


Chicago State enters the three-game series with a 4-8 record on the year. They have wins over UIC, Mount St. Mary’s and Villanova (2) this season.

The Cougars are led at the plate by Andy Gaytan. He’s hitting .434 this season, including six doubles and one triple. The junior outfielder is first on the team with twelve runs scored and second with nine RBIs.

Matt Sullivan is batting .333 on the year, including a team leading 12 RBIs. The senior also has four doubles and one triple to his name.

Reliever Yunis Halim has appeared in seven of the team’s 12 games in 2019. He carries a 2-0 record with a 1.98 ERA. The senior has struck out 17 batters in 13.2 innings.

Brett Gregory has has played in three games for the Cougars, starting in two of them. He’s 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA. The righty has struck out 12 hitters in 14.0 innings.


The Billikens are 18-0 all-time against Chicago State. The two teams most recently met on March 4, 2018.
