ST. LOUIS – The 2018-19 Saint Louis Billikens men's basketball team was celebrated Tuesday at its team banquet, held at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark in downtown St. Louis.
There was much to celebrate. The Billikens finished the year with a 23-13 record and captured the A-10 Championship in Brooklyn, N.Y., winning four games in four days for the title. SLU advanced to its fourth NCAA Tournament this decade.
Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime men's basketball radio crew Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. served as the hosts for the evening. Director of Athletics Chris May and University President Dr. Fred Pestello addressed those in attendance. Basketball student-athlete Elliott Welmer delivered the invocation.
Following dinner, Ramsey and Austin introduced the Billikens, who were seated at the head table at the podium. Then, SLU head coach Travis Ford spoke about the Billikens' staff, student-athletes, and the many tests the Billikens encountered throughout the season which ultimately led them to the A-10 title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Finally, Ford called up a student-athlete to discuss the values of "Team Blue." Sophomore Jordan Goodwin talked about Brotherhood, senior D.J. Foreman discussed Dedication, senior Javon Bess spoke of Accountability, freshman Fred Thatch Jr. explained Attitude, and sophomore Hasahn French wrapped it up with a talk about Toughness.
The Department of Athletics would like to thank the following sponsors who helped make the evening possible:
