Position: Graduate Assistant Coach

Emily McGill is entering her third season as the graduate assistant coach for the Billikens. In her time at SLU, McGill has worked with swimmers who specialize in a wide variety of events, but she has especially worked with the breaststrokers and the medley swimmers. She has helped coach numerous A-10 medallists and SLU school record holders including Justin Mars, Collin O’Brien, Savannah Nichols, Isaiah Williams and Grant Streid. 

McGill graduated from the University of New Mexico in May of 2017 with a double degree in Psychology and Family Studies. She was a three-year letter winner for the Lobos and was named to the Mountain West All-Conference team during her senior year. 

While at New Mexico, McGill specialized in breaststroke and medley events and broke numerous school records. She still holds records in the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke for the Lobos. McGill was a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and served as Team Captain during her senior year.

A native of Wellington, New Zealand, McGill swam for Capital Swim club until she moved to the United States in 2014. She won numerous New Zealand age group titles and open medals between 2004 and 2014, and her biggest achievement was representing New Zealand at the World University Games in 2013 in Kazan, Russia. 

McGill is entering her final year of her Master’s degree in Social Work at SLU and is the current Vice-President of the Social Work Students’ Association.
