ST. LOUIS – Preparation for the 2019 men's soccer season began Wednesday as the Billikens officially reported to campus. The first training sessions are slated for Thursday.
The Billikens, who are receiving votes in several national polls, finished 6-4-7 overall and 3-1-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play a season ago.
Sophomore John Klein, the 2018 A-10 Rookie of the Year, led the Billikens with nine goals last year. Senior Leo Novaes added five goals and five assists, while senior Devin Boyce contributed four goals and four assists.
Additionally, the Billikens welcome 14 newcomers into the fold, a recruiting class that has drawn national praise and features several rookies who figure to make an impact in 2019.
SLU's season opener is set for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. at Hermann Stadium against ninth-ranked Notre Dame.
The Billikens will play three exhibition games at Hermann Stadium – Sunday, Aug. 18 vs. Wisconsin at 7 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 19 vs. Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 24 vs. Missouri State at 6 p.m.
