Saint Louis received goals from Chris Bruch and John Klein, but two second-half tallies by No. 9 Notre Dame helped propel the Fighting Irish to a 3-2 victory over the Billikens Saturday at a packed Hermann Stadium.
Notre Dame (1-0) got the scoring started right away, recording a goal just 1:12 into the contest. Later in the first half, Bruch recorded his first collegiate goal for the equalizer, and the two teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 3-1 lead with goals minutes apart in the 65th and 67th minute. However, Klein made it interesting late with a header in the 81st minutes.
The Billikens continued to put pressure on the offensive end but were unable to break through.
5,942 fans were in attendance at Hermann Stadium.
Saint Louis returns to action Friday night when it travels to face SMU in Dallas, Texas.
