Saint Louis rallied in the second half behind goals by Megan Rice and Emily Wastell, but Richmond's four first-half goals were enough as the Billikens fell 4-2 to the Spiders on Saturday in Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey action at Sportport International.
The Billikens fall to 0-11 overall and 0-5 in league play. Richmond improves to 7-6 and 3-1 in the league.
Richmond scored once in the first quarter and three times in the second quarter to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.
However, the Billikens battled and scored once in the third and fourth quarters. Rice started the scoring for the Billikens in the 34th minute when she carried the ball in, faked out the Richmond goalie, and lifted a shot into the back of the net. It was Rice's second goal of the season.
Wastell cut the Richmond lead in half with a goal in the 52nd minute. She followed her own shot and buried a rebound to make it 4-2 Spiders with nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter. However, SLU was unable to get another past the Richmond goalie, the Spiders hung on for the victory.
