DAYTON, Ohio - Saint Louis benefitted from a Dayton own goal and posted a 1-0 victory Sunday in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer action at UD's Baujaun Field.
With the win, the Billikens improve to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in A-10 play. Dayton falls to 7-3 and 1-1 in the league.
The Dayton own goal occurred in the 74th minute. SLU sophomore forward Robbie Kristo created the play when he sent a cross into the box. A Dayton defender, attempting to clear the ball, inadvertently deflected it into the Flyers' net to give the Billikens a 1-0 advantage.
The SLU defense fought off several Dayton scoring chances late in the match to keep the Flyers off the scoreboard. SLU junior keeper Nick Shackelford recorded four saves for the shutout, his fourth of the season and ninth of his career.
The Billikens had the edge in possession, outshooting the Flyers 16-7. SLU also outcornered Dayton 3-2.
Saint Louis returns home for a pair of A-10 matchups next weekend. The Billikens host new A-10 member VCU Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. Richmond comes to town Sunday, Oct. 14.
