Bryce’s Goal Vaults Billikens into A-10 Title Match
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Saint Louis sophomore Kingsley Bryce scored in the 82nd minute to lift Saint Louis to 1-0 victory against Xavier Friday in a semifinal matchup at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship at Charlotte's Transamerica Field.
The Billikens (15-4) advance to Sunday's A-10 title match, where they will play either VCU or Charlotte at 3 p.m. (St. Louis time). The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
Saint Louis out-shot Xavier 18-8 and managed a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Nick Shackelford made three saves for the shutout.
Bryce, who scored the Billikens' game-winning goal in the quarterfinals against La Salle, scored the lone goal of the game at the 81:44 mark. In a flurry in the box, he headed a ball from Adnan Gabeljic for the game's only score.
Sunday will mark the third A-10 title game for the Billikens. They did not claim the title against URI after PKs in 2005, and topped Dayton in 2009 for their lone A-10 Tournament title.
