RICHMOND, Va. - Hailee Elmore and Stephanie Hollis won singles matches, while Jenny Nalepa and Kasia Tomalak captured their No. 1 doubles contest in Saint Louis' 5-2 loss to Richmond Friday.

Elmore defeated Helen Cunningham 6-2, 7-6 at No. 1 singles. The victory was the 84th of her career, putting her just four wins away from breaking Julie Siemers' Saint Louis record of 87. Hollis eased past Kelly Tidwell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Tomalak lost a narrow 7-6, 7-5 decision to Alexandra Smyth at No. 5, while Nalepa almost forced a third set before falling 6-2, 7-5 to Joanna Matuszczyk at No. 2.

Nalepa and Tomalak posted an 8-6 triumph over Matuszczyk and Sydney Grant at No. 1 doubles.

"We competed well against the best team in the conference on their home court, so we're staying positive despite the loss," head coach Jonathan Zych said. "We were just a few points away in some of the matches. It was the kind of performance that makes us excited about the conference tournament in a couple of months."

The Billikens (4-2) travel to Baltimore Saturday to face Morgan State. Match time is 6:30 p.m. (CT).
