MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Stephanie Hollis won at No. 4 singles, but Memphis defeated Saint Louis 6-1 late Friday night at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
Hollis ousted Kelly Gray 6-3, 6-3 to improve to 22-3 overall and 9-2 in dual meets. However, Memphis (11-6) captured every doubles contest and prevailed in all three singles matches (Nos. 3, 5 and 6) that went three sets.
At No. 1 singles, Hailee Elmore almost forced a third set before bowing to No. 106 Courtney Collins 6-2, 7-6. Mariya Slupska was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Casey Miller at No. 2.
Jenny Nalepa and Kasia Tomalak overcame first-set defeats to force a third set at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively. Nalepa fell to Stefanie Mikesz 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, while Kathleen Hawkins outlasted Tomalak 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Andrea Arques-Garcia got past Mia Elmore 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
In doubles action, Nalepa and Tomalak were edged 8-7 by Collins and Gray at No. 1. Slupska and Hawkins defeated Hailee Elmore and Miller 8-5 at No. 2, while Mikesz and Arques-Garcia toppled Hollis and Mia Elmore 8-3 at No. 3.
The Billikens (9-4) are back in action Monday, March 28, against UMKC. First serve at St. Clair Indoor Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill., is 11 a.m.
