SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Saint Louis baseball team picked up their 25th win of the season with a 1-0 win over Missouri State. Senior Steve Jensen earned the win to rise to 1-2 on the season. The Billiken pitching staff held the Bears to two hits on the day. The Bills are now 25-11 overall.

The starting pitching from both teams threw gems over the first five innings. Saint Louis freshman RHP Nick Bates threw five innings with four strikeouts while allowing one hit and two walks. MSU's Jake Powers went six strong innings with seven strikeouts and four hits with only one walk.

In the seventh, the Bills came alive. a leadoff single from junior Grant Nelson ended Powers' day. His replacement struggled, allowing senior Jerry Mancuso to rip a single through the left side, advancing Nelson to second. The next batter, Jon Corbitt, hit a single through the right side, allowing Nelson to score all the way from second putting Saint Louis up 1-0.

Missouri State lead off the bottom of the eighth with a single ripped through the right side. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner into scoring position with one out. Head coach Darin Hendrickson made the move to bring in junior LHP Jon Levin to face MSU lefty Kevin Medrano. The matchup worked to perfection, as Levin threw one pitch, resulting in a line out to shortstop. Freshman shortstop Alec Sole showed quick hands, and doubled off the runner at second.

With a 1-0 lead heading into the final frame, the Billikens turned to senior closer Travis Parker. He got the first batter to ground out to second. The next hitter hit a chopper over Parker's head, but Sole made a terrific play on the ball to get the out at first. Parker reached back to strike out the final batter and earn his fifth save of the season.

The Bills return to action this weekend when they take on Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts. Game one is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start on April 20.
