INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Billiken baseball won its 20th game of the season in a 6-3 victory over Butler. Senior RHP Alex Alemann (5-1) picks up the win, the 26th of his career. He also struck out eight batters, a season high for the tall righty. Fellow senior RHP Marco Mejia gets his third save of the season.  The Bills are now 20-10 overall and 6-1 in A-10 play.

Saint Louis opened the scoring in the second inning. Freshman Michael Bozarth ripped a double to left, scoring three and giving SLU an early 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Alex Kelly added an RBI double for the Billikens’ fourth run of the game. However, in the bottom of the frame, Butler scored one of their own to bring the tally to 4-1 SLU.

A Steve Fernandez RBI single in the fifth gave the Bills their fifth run of the game, and a Mike Vigliarolo RBI single in the sixth gave Saint Louis a 6-1 lead with three innings to play.

Butler made the game interesting, scoring a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to draw the score to 6-3 headed to the ninth. In the final inning, Mejia closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the win for SLU.

Freshman Braxton Martinez was impressive at the plate, going three-for-five, his tenth multi-hit game of the season. Bozarth also had a good day at the dish, going one-for-three with three RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore Mike Vigliarolo extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs and Billikens will meet again tomorrow for game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
