SAINT LOUIS - [BOX SCORE] Saint Louis University Baseball posted three runs in the first inning on Friday and never looked back as the Billikens ran away with a 6-1 win in game one of the weekend series with UMass.

Saint Louis (19-9, 6-1 A-10) pushed three runs across the plate in the first thanks in large part to a pair of doubles. Aaron Case doubled to lead-off the inning, which brought up Alex King with no outs. The Billiken shortstop placed a near perfect bunt single down the third base line, but an errant throw by third baseman Alec Norton allowed Case to score and King to make it to second.

With two outs, Carter Hanford knocked in the second run of the inning on a double to center field past a diving Nolan Kessinger, and the Billikens were off to the races. Nick Reeser followed with an RBI single to right and put Saint Louis up by three after one inning.

Saint Louis upped its lead by one in the bottom of the second. James Morisano led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a base hit from Ryan Hernandez to put runners at first and third with no outs.

Case came to the plate and drove-in the fourth run of the game on the next at-bat. The Billiken center fielder hit into a double play, which scored Morisano, and made it a 4-0 game.

UMass put one run on the board in the fourth thanks to one big swing from Eddy Hart. The Minutemen leadoff man hit a home run to right-center, his first of the season, to put the visitors on the board. This was, however, the only run they would manage on the day.

Saint Louis posted a pair in the bottom of the seventh as the home team rolled to the win.

Miller Hogan was simply dominant on Friday’s series opener. The junior tossed seven innings and allowed just three hits as he tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts.

Sean Frontzak entered in the eighth and worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings to preserve the win.

Saint Louis will meet UMass for game two on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
