Saint Louis baseball fell 9-4 to Creighton on Wednesday afternoon, putting them at 6-9 on the season.

Luke Matheny made his first start since opening weekend in late February. He went 5.1 innings, giving up one earned run on six hits and struck out four.

Freshmen Grant Fremion and Ryan Patel each threw a scoreless inning of relief. Fremion gave up no hits while striking out one, and Patel surrendered just one hit, striking out two.

At the plate, Jake Garella and Zach Frieling each had three-hit games. Garella went 3-4 including two doubles, with one RBI, one run and one walk. Frieling finished the afternoon 3-5 with two runs scored.

With his two hits on Tuesday, Garella hit for a .556 average in the two-game series (5-9) against the Bluejays, bringing his overall batting up to .333 on the season.

The Billikens continue their home stand when they begin a three-game series at the Billikens Sports Center against Chicago State on Friday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
