Saint Louis (5-0) improved to 2-0 in the Cancun Challenge and opened the season with five straight victories for the third time since the 1997-98 season. Bowling Green (1-3) fell to 0-2 in Cancun Challenge play.
Evans scored nine of SLU’s first 19 points, as the Billikens never trailed in the contest. SLU held the Falcons to 7-of-22 shooting in the first half (31.8 percent) and took a 29-19 lead into halftime.
The Billikens extended their 10-point advantage to 50-29 with a 21-10 run to open the second half. Lancona scored all 12 of his points in the second half on 5-of-7 shooting. SLU shot 60 percent from the field after intermission, including 50 percent (4 of 8) from 3-point range.
Mike McCall Jr. notched 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting to give the Billikens three scorers in double figures. Austin McBroom chipped in nine points by nailing three 3-pointers. SLU’s bench contributed 33 points in the contest.
McCall Jr., McBroom and Jordair Jett each tallied five assists, as SLU had 25 assists against 14 turnovers in the contest. The Billikens forced 18 Bowling Green miscues and held the Falcons to 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 12.5 percent from the 3-point arc.
Spencer Parker led Bowling Green with 13 points, while Richaun Holmes and Anthony Henderson added nine points apiece.
SLU will take on No. 12-ranked Wisconsin (6-0) Tuesday, Nov. 26 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in a clash of two undefeated squads. The winner of that game, which tips off at 7:30 p.m. CST, will advance to play either West Virginia or Old Dominion in the Cancun Challenge championship.
