ST. LOUIS - Freshman Abbey Stock (Town & County, Mo./St. Joseph's) headed in a corner kick in the third minute, and Saint Louis made it stand up for a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Rhode Island Friday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

Sophomore Jenny Hummert (Wildwood, Mo./St. Joseph's) collected her team-leading third assist of the season with a perfectly flighted ball. Stock directed the pass into the back of the net from six yards away at the 2:14 mark for her team-leading fourth tally of the year.

The victory gave the Billikens (4-5-2, 2-0-0) their first 2-0 start in conference play since 2007. Rhode Island fell to 5-6-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the A-10.

Junior goalkeeper Katie Walsh (Chesterfield, Mo./Whitfield) made three saves and registered her fourth shutout of the season. Walsh received help from her teammates on two occasions, as junior Maggie Baumann (Wildwood, Mo./St. Joseph's) cleared a ball off the goal line in the 19th minute following a Rhode Island corner kick, and freshman Mary Wright (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) made another defensive save in the 77th minute.

Reilly Lindsay made three saves for Rhode Island, which fell to 0-5 against the Billikens in games played at Hermann Stadium. SLU now leads the series 6-2.

The Rams earned a 13-11 advantage in shots, led by Ashley Evangelista's game-high four (three on goal). Stock and Wright led the Billikens with three shots apiece, with all three of Stock's attempts on frame.

Saint Louis concludes its three-game homestand Sunday, Oct. 9, with a 1 p.m. A-10 contest against Massachusetts.
