ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis freshman designated player Sadie Wise has been named this season’s first Atlantic 10 Conference softball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today.
Because only two teams – SLU and Massachusetts – competed on opening weekend Feb. 8-11, the A-10’s first weekly awards include performances posted during the first two weeks of the season. The Billikens were idle this past weekend.
Wise led the Billikens with seven hits, a .412 batting average and seven runs at Bradley's Petersen Hotels Invitational. She hit safely in four of five games, including a three-hit game vs. Miami (Ohio) and two hits vs. national power Washington.
Wise belted her first collegiate home run vs. Miami, a two-run shot, and doubled vs. Washington. She also drew two walks and struck out just twice in 19 plate appearances.
The Billikens travel to Ruston, Louisiana, to play five games in the Louisiana Tech Invitational Feb 23-25. In addition to playing the host team, Saint Louis will face Alcorn State, Massachusetts-Lowell, South Dakota and Missouri State.
