ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis baseball has added shortstop Zach Frieling (Palos Heights, Illinois/Chicago Christian) for the 2018 season. He will have four years of eligibility with the Billikens. He joins Ben Livorsi in the incoming Billiken recruiting class.
Frieling is a well-balanced shortstop from Chicago Christian. He is a 2016 Perfect Game Underclass All-American. Last season, as a junior, Frieling hit .348 with 12 doubles and 29 RBIs, leading Chicago Christian to a 3A Regional Championship. He also excels in the classroom, earning his way on the honor roll in each of the past three years.
“Zach is an extremely hard worker,” head baseball coach Darin Hendrickson said. “He is an athletic kid who runs a 6.8 with a good arm across the infield and pop in his bat. Zach can play second, third or short and adds a lot of versatility for us.”
Saint Louis brings in 16 newcomers for the 2017 season. The Billiken schedule features several prominent teams including Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State. Saint Louis opens the 2017 season against Lafayette on Feb. 17 in San Antonio, Texas. The first SLU home game is on March 3 against Fairleigh Dickenson.
