ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University head women’s basketball coach Lisa Stone has announced that 6-foot-2 power forward Myriama Smith Traore, who played at Marquette University during the 2017-18 season, is transferring to Saint Louis.
After sitting out the 2018-19 campaign due to NCAA transfer regulations, Smith Traore will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Billikens.
Smith Traore (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) played in 11 games this season for the Golden Eagles, who were 24-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round. She averaged 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds.
As a junior at Whitewater High School, Smith Traore led the state of Wisconsin in defensive rebounds (220) and blocks (120). She was a unanimous selection to the All-State first team and earned RVC-North and Janesville Gazette Player of the Year accolades. Smith Traore helped lead Whitewater to the state championship in her sophomore campaign.
“We recruited Myriama very hard while she was at Whitewater, so obviously we are thrilled to welcome her to the Billiken family,” Stone said. “She is a very talented and skilled interior player who also can step out and shoot the 3-pointer. We look forward to the help she can provide around the basket and on the perimeter.”
