THE BASICS
•Jackie Kemph and Sadie Stipanovich combined for 33 points, but hot 3-point shooting lifted Tulsa to a 70-64 victory over Saint Louis Thursday night at the Reynolds Center.
•Kemph tallied 18 points and seven assists, while Stipanovich turned in her third double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
•Olivia Jakubicek and Maddison Gits pulled down nine and eight rebounds, respectively, for the Billikens (7-3), who earned a 46-31 advantage on the glass.
•Tulsa improved to 4-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis fell behind 7-2, but a 16-6 run gave the Billikens an 18-13 lead after one quarter.
•Tulsa pulled even at 22 on one of its nine 3-pointers, then took the lead for good, 24-22, with 3:55 remaining in the second quarter. The Golden Hurricane led 31-27 at halftime.
•A 12-5 run expanded Tulsa’s lead to 43-32 midway through the third quarter.
•SLU’s 9-1 spurt trimmed Tulsa’s advantage to 44-41. The Golden Hurricane responded with 3-pointers on three of their last four possessions of the period to boost the lead to 53-45.
•An early fourth-quarter Tulsa trey made it an 11-point game again before Saint Louis mounted a comeback.
•Stipanovich converted a three-point play and sank two more free throws during a 10-1 run that sliced Tulsa’s lead to 59-57 with 3:54 left.
•The Billikens failed to capitalize on two consecutive possessions with a chance to tie or take the lead. Still, they trailed by just five, 66-61, and had the ball with just under a minute to play.
•However, SLU did not score on three straight attempts, and Tulsa made enough free throws to secure the victory.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Stipanovich’s double-double was the 13th of her career. She was 5-of-10 from the field and 5-of-5 from the foul line.
•Jenny Vliet had a career- and game-high three blocks.
•Gits’ eight rebounds equaled her season high. She also tossed in eight points on 4-of-7 shooting.
