ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis head field hockey coach Danielle Baumgardner has announced the addition of Jordan Besore, Lillian Cossetto and Mimi Leonard for the 2017 season. The trio joins Julia Bakker, Micaela Diaz, Anna Enright, Bailey Foreman, Claire Hellman, Noor Kalf and Erin McClelland to complete the 2017 recruiting class.
“Jordan, Lillian and Mimi round out our 2017 recruiting class,” Baumgardner said. “This class not only helps us address needs on our roster, but gives us a lot of speed and energy. They give us an opportunity not only to succeed on the field, but push each other in practice as well.”
Jordan Besore | Back | St. Louis, Mo. (Cor Jesu)
Besore is a local product from Cor Jesu in St. Louis. She helped the Chargers to back-to-back appearances in the state semifinals, culminating in a 2016 runner-up finish. Besore is a two-time All-Conference honoree.
“Jordan gives us a lot of speed and athleticism, which is exactly how we want to play,” Baumgardner said. “She is a solid outside defender, who has the skill to help us start the attack in transition. Her work ethic really impressed me and I am excited to see her develop at SLU.”
Lillian Cossetto |Goalkeeper | Canberra, Australia (Merici College)
Cossetto comes to the Billikens from Australia where she has a decorated career on the national circuit. She was selected for nine separate national teams since she was 13. Last season, Cosetto earned the Pieree De Coulbertin award for promising Olympic athletes from the Australian Olympic Committee. In addition to her prowess at field hockey, she also competed in water polo, volleyball and softball.
“Lillian is very high-energy in goal and a very vocal leader,” Baumgardner said. “She is very quick in goal and has the athleticism to make a lot of saves. Lillian also has a lot of international experience that I hope can translate to the collegiate level.”
Mimi Leonard |Midfield/Back | Trumbull, Conn. (Trumbull)
Leonard is a center midfielder and center back for Trumbull High in Trumbull, Conn. She is a four-year letterwinner for the Eagles. Leonard is a three-time All-Conference honoree and a two-time All-State honoree. Leonard led her team to the state tournament during her junior and senior campaigns after winning just one game her freshman season.
“Mimi brings a variety of talents to the team,” Baumgardner said. “She brings great stickwork, vision and energy to the midfield. I was impressed by her leadership with her high school team and think she has potential to be a strong leader.”
