SAINT LOUIS – [FULL SCHEDULESaint Louis University Field Hockey announced its 2018 schedule on Tuesday as the team continues preparation for the season throughout the summer.

The Fall slate features a pair of Big 10 opponents in exhibition play before the season gets rolling with a road test at LIU Brooklyn.

The Billikens will welcome the Indiana Hoosiers to town on Tuesday, August 14 in the first of two exhibition matches against Big 10 opponents. The second, set for Thursday, August 16 will be on the road in Iowa City as the team will take-on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“Indiana and Iowa will challenge us and expose keys areas to develop before we open our official competition in New York,” mentioned Head Coach Danielle Baumgardner of the daunting exhibition schedule.

Including the season opener, the first seven games of the season will be on the road until the team plays in front of a home crowd on Friday, Sept. 21 against Saint Francis (Pa.) in a 5:00 p.m. start. Included in the road swing are back-to-back matches against Ohio and Kent State on Friday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 2 respectively.

“Kent State and Ohio are two strong teams to finish off the non-conference portion of the schedule,” said Baumgardner. “Both of these matches will better prepare us for our opening our Atlantic 10 slate.”

The first conference game of the season will take place on Friday, Sept. 14 in Richmond, Va., when the Billikens face the VCU Rams. The squad will turn around and take-on the Richmond Spiders the following day before heading back to St. Louis for a three-game home stand.

“It will be great to return to our home turf after a travel heavy start to the season, especially against three gritty opponents,” said Baumgardner of the first home stretch.

In addition to Saint Francis, Saint Louis will take-on Davidson on Sunday, Sept. 23 before ending the home stand against La Salle on Friday, Sept. 28 in a 3:00 p.m. start.

The Billikens will have a tough test following the home series when they head back out on the road on Sunday, Oct. 7 in Bloomington, Ind., in a regular season clash with the Indiana Hoosiers.

The home schedule will conclude in a conference matchup with Saint Joseph’s on Saturday, Oct. 20 at noon against the defending A-10 champion Saint Joseph’s Hawks.

“Saint Joseph's play brings out the best in its opponents,” said Baumgardner. “We are excited to showcase the growth of our seven graduating seniors against the reigning Atlantic 10 Champions.”

The first opportunity to see the new-look Billikens will be in the Blue/Grey Scrimmage and fundraising dinner on Saturday, August 11 as the team will host its annual intrasquad scrimmage.

“We are excited to reveal our 2018 squad for the first time at our blue/grey instrasquad scrimmage on August 11,” mentioned Coach Baumgardner. “The scrimmage will be held in conjunction with our inaugural fundraiser dinner, which will make for a special day for our team to kick-off the year.”
