PHILADELPHIA - Saint Louis sophomore forward Dwayne Evans paced the Billikens with
16 points and 13 rebounds, and SLU posted its 20th win of the season in a 59-51
victory at La Salle Saturday afternoon.
The win was the Billikens' fourth in a row and their seventh
in the last eight games. They move to 20-5 overall and 8-3 in the Atlantic 10
Conference. La Salle, which owned the 10th longest active home winning streak
in the NCAA with 14 straight wins prior to today's loss, dips to 17-9 and 6-5 in the A-10.
Evans' 16 points came on 8-of-17 shooting from the
field. His 17 field-goal attempts were a career high. Evans rounded out his
fourth double-double of the season (10th of his career) with a game-high 13
Evans was one of four Billikens who scored in double
figures. Junior guard Kwamain Mitchell scored
12 points, while sophomore guard Mike
McCall Jr. netted 11 points, including a pair of big 3-pointers in the

The Billikens managed to overcome an uncharacteristic 17
turnovers, which tied a season high. SLU was sharp from the free-throw line,
nailing 83.3 percent (10-12) from the charity stripe.
La Salle was led by Jerrell Wright's game-high 18
The Billikens led by three at halftime but saw La Salle
gain the lead in a wild second half that saw five ties and six lead changes. La
Salle was leading 39-38 with 10:29 remaining until McCall buried his first of
two second-half treys, which forced a La Salle timeout. Several minutes later,
the Billikens got baskets from Conklin and Evans to make it 45-41 SLU.
But La Salle responded by tying the score at 45-all on
an alley-oop by Wright. After a Conklin basket put the Bills ahead, Wright
again tied the score at 47-47 with another jam.
McCall hit a 3-pointer with 4:06 remaining to give the
Billikens a 50-47 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. With the Billikens
up by three, Evans rebounded a Mitchell miss and put it back to give the Bills
a 54-49 lead. Mitchell would later make 3-of-4 from the charity stripe, and the
Billikens coasted to the eight-point win.
SLU led by as much as seven in the first half. A 9-0
Billiken run - which included two baskets by Evans, a trey by Rob Loe and a long-range jumper by
Mitchell - gave the Billikens a 17-10 lead with 9:37 left in the first
La Salle pulled within three late in the half before Cory Remekun jammed one home and was
fouled on the play. He completed the traditional 3-point play to put the
Billikens ahead 24-18. Evans' basket in the final minute of play sent the teams
to the locker room with the Billikens leading 26-23.
SLU returns home for a pair of home games this week. The
Billikens take on Richmond Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and Fordham Saturday
