DAYTON,
Ohio - Laura Bohning hit a three-run home run
and Hannah Huebbe tossed a
five-hitter to lift Saint Louis to a 3-2 victory over Dayton Saturday in game
one of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader at UD Softball Stadium.
In the nightcap, Dayton scored
twice in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2.
Bohning's home run, her second
of the season, put the Billikens in front in the top of the third inning.
Dayton had taken a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run homer of
its own.
Erin
Harcar began
the SLU third by bunting and reaching second on a throwing error by the
catcher. Lindsay Friedman drew a
one-out walk, and Bohning followed with a blast to left field.
Huebbe (10-7) then took over,
setting down nine of 10 Dayton batters before a sixth-inning Saint Louis error
put the tying run on. She pitched around that miscue, as well as a two-out
single in the seventh, to nail down her 10th win of the season.
Huebbe allowed five hits,
struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Jessica Buschjost singled for the Bills, who were outhit 5-2.
In game two, the Billikens
(17-19, 4-4 A-10) broke a scoreless tie in the sixth, again via the long ball.
Bohning singled with one out, and Rachel
Faletto delivered her first home run of the year, a two-out shot to center,
to give SLU the lead.
But Dayton (14-19, 2-6 A-10)
cut the margin in half with a run in the sixth and tallied twice in the seventh
to erase SLU's hopes of a sweep.
Kelcie
Matesa (4-6)
absorbed the loss. Matesa pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs,
five hits and a walk while fanning six. After Dayton loaded the bases with one
out in the first, Matesa retired 10 straight UD hitters and 14 of 15 before the
Flyers rallied in the sixth.
Alyson
Brand doubled
for the Bills, while Buschjost registered two singles and Harcar singled.
Saint
Louis hosts Southern Illinois in a doubleheader Wednesday, April 11. First
pitch at the Billiken Sports Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
