Hagar, Sheridan Guide Bills to Wins in the Pool
Nov. 20, 2008 ST. LOUIS - Jordan Hagar and Stephen Sheridan each won two individual events to lead Saint Louis to sweep of Eastern Illinois at Simon Recreation Center on the SLU campus on Thursday evening. The Billiken men (13-2) won seven of the 10 scored individual events in a 131-82 victory, while the SLU women (14-5) won six events in their 122-102 win. Hagar won the 1000 free with the eighth-fastest time in school history (10:50.69) and went on to touch first in the 100 free (54.41). Sheridan finished first in the 200 (1:44.57) and 500 (4:54.39) free events. They were the Bills' only double winners of the night. Saint Louis won both one-meter diving events with Chad Carmichael turning in the top performance for the men (270.75), which was also the fifth-highest score in school history. Anna Larson won the women's event with a score of 233.50. The Billikens also swept the 100 fly and the 100 back. Jillian Smith finished first in the women's race (1:01.39), while Kevin Parker captured first-place honors for the men (53.38). Lindsey Tamkun out-swam the competition in the 100 back with a first-place effort of 59.54, while Justin Breithaupt won the men's race (53.76). Other individual event winners for the Bills were Michael Kelly in the 1000 free (10:03.52), Michael Dahle in the 200 IM (1:59.84) and Katie Kolster in the 500 free (5:16.04). The SLU men placed first in the 200 medley (1:37.90) and 200 free (1:29.29) relays.
Saint Louis returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 22 with a 2 p.m. dual at Illinois-Chicago. The Bills have just one home meet remaining this season, Dec. 5 against the Stephens College women's team and Lindenwood. |
