Oct. 30, 2008
This Week: Saint Louis swimming and diving will travel to St. Peters, Mo., on Saturday, Nov. 1, for the five-team Lindenwood Invitational at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. The diving portion of the meet begins at 10:30 a.m., with the swimming events slated to start at 1 p.m. Eureka College, Hannibal-LaGrange College and Lincoln (Mo.) University are the other teams competing in the meet. Last Time Out: The Billikens picked up three victories in their home opener on Oct. 11. The men's squad easily defeated Western Illinois 146-68, while the women's team downed both UALR, 160-59, and WIU, 142-80. Five Billikens picked up two wins apiece. About the Billikens: The 2008-09 Billiken squads feature a wealth of youth as 18 student-athletes, including 14 freshmen, have suited up in the blue and white for the first time. The women's team is off to a 7-1 start, while the men's squad is 3-1. Anna Larson leads Saint Louis with seven first-place finishes, while Michael Dahle trails with five and Laura Robertson has four individual wins. Coach Jim Halliburton: Head coach Jim Halliburton is in his eighth season at the helm of the Billiken swimming and diving program. His men's and women's teams have amassed a 210-60-1 dual-meet record during his tenure. Halliburton's staff is comprised of diving coach Greg Triefenbach, assistant coaches Meredith Kiersznowski, Jessen Wabeke and Stefan Yarbrough and volunteer assistant Brad Byars.
Dynamite Divers: Freshmen divers Billy Hrabovsky and Chad Carmichael have made their presence felt early in the 2008-09 campaign. Hrabovsky already owns the fifth- (239.45) and eight-best (213.20) one-meter diving scores in school history. He also owns the fourth- (251.70) and seventh-best (228.20) efforts in SLU annals on the three-meter board. Additionally, Carmichael posted the sixth-highest one-meter score in school history (221.70) against Western Illinois. Jordan Scores: Sophomore Jordan Hagar leads the women's team with three performances that rank among the Billikens' all-time top 10. Hagar's 24.82 in the 50 free at the Butler Quad ranks eight in SLU annals, while her relay split of 53.67 (100 free) ranks sixth. Less than a week later in a meet against Illinois State and Northern Iowa, Hagar bettered her 50-free effort with the seventh-fastest time in school history (24.80). She is the only swimmer on the women's team to crack the top 10 in any event this season. Larson's Leads: Junior Anna Larson leads the Billikens with seven first-place finishes this season. Her best effort of the season came in the home opener against UALR and Western Illinois when she recorded the seventh-best three-meter dive score in SLU annals (265.95) en route to winning the event. The Trifecta: Sophomore Michael Dahle is the only Billiken to capture three first-place finishes in a single meet this season. At the Butler Quad, he touched first in the 500 free, 1000 free and 200 fly. At Wash U, Dahle registered the sixth-fastest 1000-free effort (9:51.00) in school history. International Experience: Freshman diver Erin Savas competed in the 2008 FINA World Junior Diving Championships Sept. 16-21 in Aachen, Germany. Savas represented Cyprus, her father's home country. Billiken diving coach Greg Triefenbach is the head coach for the Cyprus National Diving Team. |
