EUGENE, Ore. - Saint Louis University freshmen Brittney Cloudy (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette) and Dahmar Smiles (Laurel, Md./Meade) rounded out the outdoor track and field season this weekend at the USA Junior Championships at the University of Oregon.

Cloudy competed in the triple jump, while Smiles ran the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. They would have had to finish in the top two in their respective events to advance to next week's Pan American Games in Trinidad & Tobago.

Cloudy finished seventh in the triple jump with a school-record mark of 41-0.25 (12.50 meters). That distance surpassed her previous best of 40-11.50. The Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field triple jump champion, Cloudy polished off an impressive freshman campaign that also saw her become the first Billiken to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.

Smiles, the first SLU athlete to qualify for two events at the Junior Championships, placed 13th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.29. He also placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.26.

Second-year head cross country/track and field coach Jon Bell now shifts his focus to the upcoming cross country season, which is a little more than two months away. SLU will serve as hosts of the 2009 A-10 Cross Country Championships Oct. 31 in Forest Park.
