ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis track and field student-athletes Matt Alexander (Defiance, Mo./Francis Howell), Mary Moloney (Bay Village, Ohio/St. Joseph) and David Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) have been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference's Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic team, as announced by the league office.

Whelan has drawn four straight All-Academic nods dating back to the 2007-08 indoor track and field season, while Alexander has been selected Academic All-Conference for the second time in his career. Moloney is the lone female A-10 student-athlete this season to be named to the All-Academic teams for cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field.

Alexander, a senior biology major, was the Billikens' top 400 meters competitor during the outdoor track and field season. At the A-10 Championships, he finished eighth in the event with a season-best time of 49.09, just shy of his school-record effort of 48.94. Alexander anchored the Billikens' record-setting 4x400-meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:15.97 at the Kansas Relays.

Moloney competed in a myriad of distance events during the outdoor season. The senior business administration major finished seventh in the 10,000 meters at the A-10 Championships with a season-best time of 37:48.17. Moloney also ranked third on the SLU performance list in the 1,500 meters (4:54.06) and 5,000 meters (18:12.34). Moloney was the first-ever recipient of SLU's "Get in the Game" scholarship, which is awarded each year to an outstanding female student-athlete who is a business major.

Whelan, a junior biomedical engineering major, was the Billikens' top sprinter during the outdoor campaign. At the A-10 Championships, he was one of eight qualifiers for the 100-meter dash final. Additionally, Whelan was a member of the Billikens' 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay squads that posted school records this season. Whelan owns school records in the 100-meter dash (10.90) and 200-meter dash (22.17).
