Edwardsville, Ill. - In the fifth annual running of the Cross Country Only National Championship meet in Edwardsville, Ill., Creighton University won the women's meet, while the University of Dayton claimed the men's title. The Blue Jays compiled 68 points to edge Xavier. The Flyers totalled 43 points to easily outpoint the Xavier men.

Shalaine Phaup won the individual women's meet, covering the 6K course in 22:19.91. Angela Fischer, from Creighton, came in second in a time of 22:21.99, while Hofstra's Jen Campbell finished third in 22:27.82. On the men's side, Dayton took the top two positions as Brian Roberts was the individual champion in a time of 26:16.80 on the 8-kilometer course. UD's Kevin Tscholl was second recording a 26:27.70 to beat third place finisher Nick Waninger of Evansville, who clocked a 26:33.62.

For the Billikens, junior Emily Zimmerman came home 14th in a time of 23:51.81. Janelle Decker was second for the Billikens, 22nd overall, at 24:22.86. Sarah Moberg placed 28th individually with a time of 24:38.21. Reilly DeSantis came in fourth on the team at 24:45.01, while Anne Lampe was right behind in 24:46.27. Other SLU runners: Jamie Branham (24:58.17); Brooke Elbert (25:15.66); Stephanie Jansing (25:48.08); Anissa Reynolds (26:00.14); Molly Oliver (26:44.34); Jenny Rancour (26:48.26); Macaira Rooney (26:51.69); Kari Sindberg (26:56.47); Kate Heidemann (27:23.33); Sarah Hasser (30:07.80)

 

 

On the Billiken men's side, senior Brandon Middleton recorded a time of 27:09.99 to finish 13th overall. Joe Porter clocked a 27:25.71 to finish second for SLU, and freshman Paul Lemon finished third on the squad in 27:47.08. Other SLU men's runners: Dan Herman (28:22.71); Jason Genta (28:25.97); Jimmy Holmes (28:51.52); Joel Rollings (30:03.64); Don Lassus (30:37.82); Tyler Siddens (30:38.08).
