Billikens Finish Sixth at A-10 Women's Cross Country Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Saint Louis' women's cross country squad turned in its best finish ever at the Atlantic 10 Conference Cross Country Championships after placing sixth Saturday morning at the Charlotte Campus Course. The men's team matched last year's performance with a 12th-place showing. Leading the women's team was senior Mary Moloney, who placed 20th with a 5K time of 18:47.5. She was just four seconds shy of claiming All-Conference honors. Freshman Hilary Orf ran in the same pack as Moloney and placed 22nd overall and second among the Billikens with a time of 18:48.4. That mark also ranked fourth among freshmen in the field consisting of close to 140 runners. Another freshman, Adair Quisenberry, placed third among her teammates and 36th overall with a time of 19:04.4. Senior Lauren Verzal turned in a time of 19:13.1 to place 39th. Senior Molly Burke and junior Laura Peabody finished with times of 19:17.0 and 19:17.7, respectively, to give the Billikens six finishers in the top 50. Sophomore Brian Holdmeyer paced a young men's team and finished 49th overall with an 8K time of 25:48.2. The only upperclassman to score for SLU was junior Neal Rodrigues, who placed second among his teammates after crossing the line in 26:00 to finish 59th in a field of 138 participants. Sophomore Kyle Ross finished in 26:51.4, while freshman Will Herrington was the fourth Billiken finisher with a time of 27:16.2. Junior John Woodman also scored for the Billikens by finishing in 27:28.6. The Billikens return to action Nov. 13 when they participate in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Stillwater, Okla.
