June 6, 2008
ST. LOUIS - The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Saint Louis pitcher Dave Sever (Burr Ridge, Ill./Benet Academy) in the 21st round (637th overall) of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft today. The 6-foot-4 junior is coming off a season that saw him post a 5-6 record with 80 strikeouts. He pitched a pair of complete games for the Billikens and picked up a team-leading four wins in Atlantic 10 Conference play. In three seasons at SLU, Sever already ranks sixth in school history with 199 strikeouts. In addition, his 16 career victories are tied for the fourth most in the SLU record book, while his 276.0 innings pitched are the fifth-most in school history. Sever is the fourth Billiken to be drafted this decade, and the first to be taken by the Dodgers. He is SLU's highest draftee since Mike Huelsmann was chosen in the 20th round by the Cleveland Indians in 1996.
