ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University senior right-hander Bryant Cotton helped his summer club team, the El Dorado Broncos, to the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series title last weekend in Wichita, Kan. The Broncos went 7-0 at the national tournament, ultimately winning the title after a 2-1 extra-inning victory against Anchorage (Alaska).

Cotton lifted the Broncos past Santa Barbara (Calif.) in the fourth game of the tournament. He went six innings, yielding just one run on six hits as El Dorado topped the Foresters 4-3. In regional play, Cotton helped the Broncos to their sixth Jayhawk League title.

Cotton was one of several Billikens who impacted their summer club teams. A trio of Billikens helped the Laramie (Wyo.) Colts to the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League title. Redshirt freshman right-hander Alex Alemann was voted co-Best Pitcher of the squad after leading the team with 12 appearances en route to a 6-0 record and 2.80 ERA. Sophomore right-hander Marco Mejia appeared in 11 games out of the bullpen, while sophomore infielder Lucas Calderon played in 20 games.

Senior infielder Danny Brock led the Rochester (Minn.) Honkers to the Northwoods League title. He hit .293, smacked six home runs and drove in 30 runs in 62 games.

Four Billikens were on the Quincy (Ill.) Gems squad that claimed the Prospect League championship. Junior Jon Myers registered five home runs and 32 RBIs, while sophomore left-hander Jim Foster was strong on the hill with a 2-2 record and 3.20 ERA in 39-1/3 innings. Sophomores Jerry Mancuso and Zach Miller contributed early in the year before injuries shortened their seasons.

Senior infielder Andrew Guerra was the second-leading hitter on the Wilmington (N.C.) Sharks of the Coastal Plain League, a squad that also featured Billiken sophomore right-hander Garrett Cooper. Sophomore catcher Connor Gandossy turned in a solid season with the Glens Falls (N.Y.) Golden Eagles of the New York Collegiate League.
