Recap |  Box Score

Saint Louis forward Luke Meyer
"We started off 0-2 in the conference, so we definitely needed to get on the right track. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy task. They are a big team. We fought hard, played some really good defense, and got some great contribution from Adam (Knollmeyer) and our bench tonight. It was a real good win for us."

On the last seven days... "Basketball is a crazy game. We had a terrible night last Thursday. We had to move on, and we did. It feels good beating a ranked team because they are going to be a force in the conference. We were just happy to get away with a win."

Saint Louis guard Tommie Liddell III
"Coming into this game, we knew Rhode Island played tough. We just wanted to focus on playing great defense. We boxed out good for the most part. The team really hustled and we came out with the win tonight."

On scoring in transition... "We have been working on that in practice a lot. Coach said that teams want to run, so we want to run, and they are letting us run. We got some easy buckets and we spread their defense out a little bit."

On hitting 1,000 points for his career... "I really don't have any individual goals, but obviously it is a good thing. I want to do what is best for the team, and any way we can get a W is what I am going to try to do."

Saint Louis forward Adam Knollmeyer
"I knew the game plan really well. With Barry (Eberhardt) being out, it was a big opportunity for me to step up and play."

On how he approached the game... "I approach every game the same. I never know when my number is going to be called. I'm always ready to go."

Rhode Island head coach Jim Baron
"They (Saint Louis) played very physical, very aggressive, used their bodies probably as good as anybody that we play against. Daniels got into foul trouble early and took us out of our momentum. You have to give them credit, they did a good job of sharing the basketball and playing defense."

If he was worried about this game..."No question. They are a good team. They have some good players. I saw the Dayton game and they took them to overtime. They had a chance to win that game; they are a good team."

On ranked league teams falling recently..."I think the Atlantic 10 is a terrific conference. It has a lot of balance. It has been a challenge on a lot of teams to win on the road."

Head coach Rick Majerus
"I told the team I felt better about the way they practiced, but actually I felt very good about the win. I'm happy for them. They are really trying their heart out, for the most part. It is hard to have to win these games a couple times over. Nothing helps you like hustle. We won it defensively, and we are getting better and better defensively. I thought they competed. They had a nice spirit about them."

"I thought our fans were good. They gave us a nice lift. I think fans appreciate effort, and the guys gave them a good effort."

On Adam Knollmeyer... "Adam has worked real hard in practice. He was going to play ahead of Bryce anyway this game based on his practice performance."

On Paul Eckerle... "I wanted him to be loose. I told him to be aggressive and attack. His best attack is that shot. You have to know who you are, and that shot is indicative of him having an awareness of who he is."
