Willie Reed Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

Jan. 5, 2009

Saint Louis University freshman forward Willie Reed (Kansas City, Mo. / Bishop Miege) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the period ending Jan. 4. The honor is Reed's first of his Billiken career.

Against UMBC, Reed went 7-of-7 from the field and finished with a career-high 18 points helping the Billikens to an 81-60 win. His perfect shooting performance was the best by a Billken since Erwin Claggett hit all 10 shots against UMKC on Dec. 7, 1994. Reed added three rebounds and three blocked shots versus the Retrievers. In the North Carolina A&T victory, he finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. For the week, Reed averaged 15.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg while shooting 78.6 percent from the field.

The Billikens (9-5) begin A-10 conference play on Thur., Jan. 8, when they travel to Xavier for a 7 p.m. (CT) game at the Cintas Center.
