Thorpe Named Interim Head Coach

April 17, 2007

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis director of athletics Cheryl L. Levick announced that Angres Thorpe will serve as interim head men's basketball coach during the search process for a new head coach. Thorpe has been an assistant at Saint Louis since 2002 and served as Brad Soderberg's lead assistant in 2006-07. Thorpe will guide the program through the transition period to a new head coach.

Thorpe came to Saint Louis after two seasons at Ball State, where he helped the Cardinals to a 23-12 record in 2001-02 and a trip to the NIT. From 1996 to 2000, he was an assistant at Lewis University and began his career as a graduate assistant at Loras College, where he worked from 1993-96. Thorpe was a four-year letterman at St. Leo College (Fla.) where he earned a bachelor's degree in business management in 1990.

The University has immediately begun the process of securing a new head coach. Information regarding that search will be communicated in the weeks ahead.
