St. Louis - Saint Louis University head men's basketball coach Brad Soderberg today announced that former Villanova guard Reggie Bryant (Baltimore, Md. / St. Thomas More) will transfer into the Billikens' program. After sitting out the 2002-03 season as required by NCAA transfer rules, Bryant will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2003-04 season.

"Reggie is an important player to us, because he's a proven scorer capable of stepping into Marque Perry's shoes after Marque graduates," Soderberg said. "Reggie averaged nearly double figures last year in the Big East where shots don't come easily or uncontested."

During the 2001-02 season, Bryant averaged 9.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-2 guard was second on the Wildcats in three-point shooting with 54 treys and shot 38.6 percent from the arc. He shot 72.5 percent from the free throw line and had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.3. In a National Invitation Tournament quarterfinal loss to Temple, Bryant established a career high with 19 points.

In 55 career games at Villanova, Bryant scored 418 points and averaged 7.6 ppg. Bryant missed seven games during his freshman season while battling illness for two months, but still averaged 5.7 ppg and 1.7 rpg.

Bryant brings Soderberg's first recruiting class to two players including forward Justin Johnson (Merrillville, Ind. / Merrillville) who committed to the Billikens in early May.
