Drejaj Signs to Play Professionally in Europe

June 29, 2006

St. Louis - Former Saint Louis Billikens guard Anthony Drejaj (W. Orange, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) signed a two-year contract yesterday to play for Sigal Prishtine in Kosovo's Super League, the premier professional league in that country.

"It is a tremendous opportunity for me, and hopefully, I will be able to keep playing for some time," Drejaj said. "It is a good situation, because my mother is a native of that region, so I don't count as a foreigner on the roster."

Drejaj received the Bills' Most Inspirational Award following the conclusion of the 2005-06 season. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists per game and led the Bills with 31 steals during his senior year. He ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 Conference in three-point percentage (.412) and 18th in steals per game (1.2). He finished third on the Bills' all-time steals list with 148 and fourth on SLU's all-time three-pointer list at 142.

Drejaj will play on Kosovo's National Team when that season begins. "Albania also inquired about playing for its National Team," Drejaj said. "But since my parents left Albania, it split into two countries. So, I'll represent where I'm playing and living."
