St. Louis - Saint Louis head men's basketball coach Brad Soderberg today announced that 6-foot-8 forward Horace Dixon (Greenville, S.C. / Fork Union Military Academy) has signed a financial aid agreement to attend the University and play basketball for the Billikens. He will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2006-07 academic year.

"Horace is immediately our best athlete and fits a description of a player that is not currently on our roster, because he has size, speed, length and the potential to grow into a terrific big man," Soderberg said. "He runs the floor like a gazelle, has toughness and can be an outstanding defender. We are thrilled to get a gem like Horace this late in the year, and that's a tribute to the diligence of my assistant coaches - Angres Thorpe, Jason Grunkemeyer and Jamall Walker."

"Saint Louis is the best situation for me, because of the coaching staff and the players have a family environment," Dixon said. "Saint Louis plays in a great conference, and I believe SLU is a place where I can grow and mature."

During the 2005-06 season, Dixon played for long-time head coach Fletcher Arritt at Fork Union Military Academy and helped FUMA to a 23-9 record while averaging 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. "Horace will fit in well at Saint Louis, because I like the way Coach Soderberg and his staff go about their business," Arritt said. "We had seven Division I players on our roster this year, and Horace stood out with his athleticism."

Before heading to Fork Union, Dixon completed his high school career by averaging 17 points and 13 rebounds per game at Mauldin High School in Greenville, S.C. "I am an energy guy who plays with passion," Dixon said. "I play the game hard and love to play defense. I will bring heart and a new confidence to the team."

Dixon joins 6-foot-8 forward Adam Knollmeyer (Linn, Mo. / Linn HS) and 6-foot-5 guard Dustin Maguire (Bethalto, Ill. / Edwardsville HS) in this recruiting class.
