Billikens and KMOX Extend Contract for Two Years
July 12, 2001 St. Louis - Saint Louis University director of athletics Doug Woolard today announced a two-year contract extension with KMOX Radio 1120 AM to continue broadcasting Billikens' men's basketball games. Billiken basketball has been aired on the 50,000 watt clear channel powerhouse since the 1997-98 season. KMOX will broadcast 20 regular-season Billikens games and 10 games will air on partner station KFNS AM 590. "The combination of Billiken basketball on KMOX and KFNS best serves the interests of our men's basketball program and the University as a whole along with our alumni and fans," Woolard said. "KMOX provides wide-spread exposure for our entire athletic program, and their national reputation as a first class operation only heightens respect for Saint Louis University athletics. As the only all-sports radio station in St. Louis, KFNS delivers targets an audience that we definitely want to reach."
"KMOX is very proud of our partnership with Saint Louis University and is pleased to continue our relationship with the University," said KMOX vice president and general manager Karen Carroll. "Billiken basketball is a powerful part of our commitment to sports play-by-play in America's number one sports city. As 'America's Sports Voice,' KMOX can be heard by Billiken fans and alumni in 44 states."
