Saint Louis University head men's basketball coach Rick Majerus today announced that 6-foot-5 guard Jeff Reid (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play basketball for the Billikens. Reid will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2009-10 academic year.

"Jeff is indicative of what the term student-athlete represents - he is a terrific student as well as a gifted athlete," Majerus said. "Jeff has winner written all over him and possesses a fiery, competitive streak. His skill set of being an outstanding shooter as well as a `make-it-look-easy' passer fit the Saint Louis University game plan.

"Jeff plays before 3,000 people in what may be Kansas' most competitive conference, the Centennial League," Majerus said. "He is accustomed to pressure situations and is fundamentally sound. Jeff is the product of an exceptional high school coach and teacher, Ted Schuler."

As a junior, Reid averaged 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists a game. He shot 55 percent from the field, 37 percent from 3-point range and 73 percent from the free-throw line. Last spring, Reid led the Wildcats to a 25-1 record, including a 21-game winning streak, and the Kansas 4A state championship. He was a first-team All-State selection by the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Wichita Eagle, the Centennial League Player of the Year and a first-team All-City selection. During Hayden's run to the state title, Reid averaged 19.3 ppg and scored 15 points in the championship game victory. Jeff's brother, Josh, played basketball at Kansas State.

Jeff Reid becomes the fourth member of the Billikens' fall recruiting class. Signing earlier with SLU were 6-foot-8 post Cory Remekun (Mesquite, Texas/Mesquite), 6-foot-4 guard Christian Salecich (Gold Coast, Australia/Institute of Sport) and 6-foot-7 forward Jon Smith (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City).
