Billikens in 10th Place After Day One at Missouri State

April 4, 2006

HOLLISTER, Mo. - Youth and experience led Saint Louis to 10th place after the first day of competition at the Branson Creek Invitational on Monday. Freshman Collin Piercy holds a share of 31st place after back-to-back 77s, while senior Barry O'Neill's total of 156 put him in a tie for 38th heading into Tuesday's final round of play at the Branson Creek Golf Club.

Piercy's play was steady despite disparate conditions for the two rounds. Cold and windy in round one, the sun came out and the winds calmed in the afternoon, which brought scores down across the tournament.

After opening with a 77 in round one, O'Neill posted a 79 in round two. Junior Ryan Blechle had the biggest change of fortune as he followed a first-round 89 with a 75 in round two to hold a share of 64th place. Among those tied with Blechle is senior John Campbell who lowered a first-round 85 to a 79 the second time around. Sophomore Adam Serrano shot 79 in round two after a scoring oversight rendered his first-round 82 invalid.

Host Missouri State sits atop the team standings after day one, two strokes ahead of Nebraska. Nebraska's Ty Capps is the individual leader after a tournament-low 68 in the second round followed his opening-round 74.
