April 4, 2006
HOLLISTER, Mo. - Freshman Collin Piercy shot a career-bst 73 in the final round of the Branson Creek Invitational to finish 21st, but it was not enough to pull Saint Louis out of 11th place in the tournament. After matching 77s in the first two rounds Monday, Piercy completed just his second collegiate tournament with team-best 73 Tuesday. After falling behind with a 328 in the first round Monday, the Billikens shot 310 in the second round to hold 10th place headed into Tuesday's final round. SLU matched its second-round 310 but was overtaken by Creighton, who posted a 296 to close out the tournament. Behind Piercy, senior Barry O'Neill took 47th place when a final-round 80 combined with his 77 and 79 on Monday for a score of 236. Senior John Campbell turned in his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting 78 after opening with 85-79 on Monday. His 242 was good for 52nd place in the 64-golfer field. Junior Ryan Blechle closed with an 80 on Tuesday, which combined with his 89-75 Monday, to put him in 53rd place. Sophomore Adam Serrano completed the team with a final-round 79. He did not place in the tournament after a scoring decision in round one disqualified him from individual competition. Nebraska edged out host Missouri State for the team title. The Cornhuskers rallied from two strokes down to the Bears after Monday's play to win the tournament by three strokes. Nebraska's Ty Capps picked up individual medallist honors with rounds of 74, 68 and 73, nudging past teammate Brady Schnell by two strokes.
