SLU Coaches and Former Billikens Headed to World Cup
May 4, 2006 St. Louis - Saint Louis men's soccer coaches Mike Sorber and Tim Kelly will be joined by four former Billiken standouts in Germany this summer for the 2006 World Cup. The SLU contingent was part of the Scott Gallagher team that defeated Chicago's RWB Adria 2-1 in overtime at the 2006 Budweiser Cup U.S. Finals at the Anheuser-Busch Center. The winners will now compete in a 10-team, 6-v-6 international soccer championship on June 28 in Cologne, Germany. The Billiken alumni include Ken Costello (1995-98), Kevin Kalish (1997-98), Mike Moriarty (1995-98) and Pat Moriarty (1995-98). In addition to playing on the same field as FIFA World Cup sides, teams competing in the Budweiser Cup finals will revel in the entire World Cup experience, including round-trip airline tickets to Cologne, first-class hotel accommodations and tickets to two FIFA World Cup matches. This will be Sorber's second trip to the World Cup. He was a member of the U.S. National Team that was one of the major surprises of the 1994 World Cup staged in the United States. The 2006 Budweiser Cup International Finals will feature teams from the following countries: Argentina, England, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Portugal, United Arab Emirates and the United States.
