Danny Wynn Lands on Revolution's Roster
July 7, 2006 St. Louis - The New England Revolution of Major League Soccer signed former Saint Louis Billikens defender Danny Wynn (St. Louis, Mo. / Chaminade) to a developmental contract. The Revolution had selected Wynn with the 11th pick in the MLS supplemental draft in January. With the Revolution besieged by injuries, Wynn played earlier than expected when he made his debut against DC United on June 17 and played 60 minutes against Real Salt Lake on June 24. "I thought that the transition from high school to college was difficult, but the transition from college to the pros is 10 times that," he said. "It is something that you have to experience to explain, but you just can't afford to have a bad day." "The pro game is different, because your time on the ball is so limited," Wynn said. "You have to be thinking three steps ahead or you lose the ball. The pro level is much more mental, which is tiring in itself. You can't get away with just speed and strength, because it's a thinking man's game. It's great to come out for a home game and have 20,000 people behind you, but on the road you have to try to block that out." St. Louis natives Pat Noonan, Taylor Twellman and Steve Ralston aided Wynn's assimilation into the Revolution's team. "Having St. Louis players on the team when I got here made it a lot easier," Wynn said. "They are great guys, and they took me under their wing, which helped a lot. Plus, we have a lot of things in common to talk about like Cardinals baseball." Wynn could have joined the Revolution earlier, but chose to finish school and graduate. "That also allowed me time to train and prepare," he said. "I worked with (former SLU trainer) Mike Linn at Velocity Sports, and he helped me tremendously both physically and mentally." At the conclusion of his final Billiken season, Wynn was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 Conference. He was fifth on the 2005 Billikens in scoring with a career-high 10 points (2G, 6A), and his two goals were also a career high. Wynn collected 20 career points (3G, 14A) in 61 games.
