CSTV Game with Indiana Highlights Billikens' Home Slate

July 12, 2006

St. Louis - Saint Louis Billikens head coach Dan Donigan today announced a 17-match regular-season men's soccer schedule that will be capped by the University hosting the 2006 College Cup at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

The Billikens begin defense of their 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season championship with a challenging non-conference schedule that includes 2004 College Cup semifinalist SMU and perennial national contender Indiana.

"We have a good variety of opponents early in the season, and the opportunity is there for us to help ourselves nationally and prepare for our conference season," Donigan said. "Meanwhile, hosting collegiate soccer's premier event is the chance of a lifetime for our program and a huge motivating force for our players as we prepare for the 2006 season."

The Billikens open their home schedule with an exhibition match against South Florida on Sat., Aug. 19, followed one week later by the regular-season home opener against Illinois-Chicago. A four-game road swing ensues to Indiana's Soccer Classic, where SLU will face Big East powers Connecticut and Notre Dame, and to Santa Clara for dates with the host Broncos and Navy. Saint Louis begins an eight-game homestand with a nationally televised match on CSTV against Indiana on Fri., Sept. 15. One week later, the Billikens' renew their regional rivalry with SMU.

Saint Louis closes its non-conference schedule by hosting intrastate rival Missouri State on Tue., Sept. 26, and begins A-10 play with Duquesne on Sat., Sept. 30, for Homecoming. The homestand concludes with St. Bonaventure, Fordham, Xavier and Dayton visiting Hermann Stadium. The Bills finish the regular season with four road dates at Saint Joseph's, Temple, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Charlotte hosts the A-10 Tournament beginning with the quarterfinals on Thu., Nov. 2, followed by the semifinals on Fri., Nov. 3, and the title match on Sun., Nov. 5. The Billikens aim to earn an NCAA Tournament bid and have the opportunity to play their way back to Hermann Stadium for the College Cup on Dec. 1 and 3.

On its 12-game home schedule, Saint Louis has five Friday night matches, three Saturday night dates, three Sunday matinees and one game on a Tuesday night.
