Saint Louis alum Andrew Balcer will also be making his collegiate coaching debut as an assistant for the Billikens.

The Granite City, Ill., native was a four-year member of the men's tennis team. Balcer served as a practice player for two years and spent a year at the University's Madrid campus before breaking into the regular lineup.

Balcer typically played at the No. 5 or 6 position and was a competitive player at that spot. According to Zych, he added a lot of will and fought in every match he played.

Last season, Zych looked to Balcer during the final month of the season when the Billiken roster was drastically reduced due to injuries and attrition. Balcer returned to the team for a fourth season, competing at the No. 5 and 6 spots during the spring. He was instrumental in the Billikens' strong finish to the 2006 season. Balcer finished his career with a 6-20 singles record and a 2-8 mark in doubles action.

Balcer, who received his bachelor's degree in international studies and economics from SLU in 2006, is currently pursuing a law degree.
