TULSA, Okla. - Saint Louis men's tennis concluded its fall campaign by competing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships Oct. 22-26 at the University of Tulsa.

Ken Nordheim and James McArthur made the Billikens' farthest advance in a main draw, winning two matches to reach the doubles quarterfinals. The SLU duo easily disposed of Tulsa's Alastair Barnes and Patrick Collins 8-2 in the first round, then edged Bradwin Williams and Taylor King of Arkansas 8-6. Their advance was halted in the quarterfinals by an 8-3 loss to fourth-seeded Chris Nott and Dmitry Lebedev of Arkansas.

Also in the doubles main draw, Jake Hendrie and Chris Eriksson were nipped 9-8 (10-5) by Bradley's Milos Romic and Callen Fraychineaud in the first round. In doubles qualifying, Reinoud Haal and Patrick Dwyer of Iowa defeated Dave Welkener and Bryan Beasley 8-2, while Oklahoma's Ryan Proctor and Chris Fotopolous escaped with a 9-8 (10-4) victory over P.J. Hendrie and Drew Feder.

In the singles main draw, Jake Hendrie advanced to the round of 32 with a 7-5, 6-4 first-round triumph over Arkansas' Williams. Hendrie then fell to 14th-seeded Calin Paar of Nebraska 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, Nordheim dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Wichita State's David Cavalcanti; McArthur battled 11th-seeded Aleksey Bessonov of Oklahoma State before succumbing 4-6, 6-3, 6-2; and Eriksson was downed 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 by Arkansas' Matt Walters.

 

 

Nordheim went on to advance to the singles back draw quarterfinals. He beat Iowa's Tom Mroziewicz 7-5, 6-3 and Arkansas' King 6-2, 6-1, then was forced to retire trailing 12th-seeded Marc Bruche of Iowa 4-2 in a first-set tiebreaker.

Also in the singles back draw, McArthur posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Bradley's Brock Reiman before bowing to Wichita State's Jon Orbist 6-2, 6-3. Iowa's Haal eliminated Eriksson 6-2, 6-2.

Eriksson reached the main draw through qualifying. Seeded seventh among 32 players in the qualifying rounds, he won by default in the first round before blanking Bradley's Reiman 6-0, 6-0 to earn a spot in the main draw.

Feder, P.J. Hendrie and Beasley were victorious in the first round of qualifying before being eliminated in the round of 16. Feder outlasted Pavlo Buriy of Southern Illinois 6-3, 6-7 (3-7) (10-1) before falling to top-seeded King of Arkansas 6-3, 6-3. Hendrie was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Southern Illinois' Jordan Snyder, then lost to third-seeded Tommy McGeorge of Iowa 6-1, 6-0. Beasley defeated Mandela Shepard of Western Illinois 7-6, 6-1 prior to giving second-seeded Collins of Tulsa a tough battle in a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) loss. Welkener was eliminated by sixth-seeded Erik Sock of Nebraska 6-1, 6-2.
