Billikens Run Past Georgetown 4-0

Aug. 31, 2008

Final Stats

Sophomore Natalie Gamez tallied twice, and senior Christine Frampus tied a school record with three assists as the Saint Louis field hockey team ran past Georgetown 4-0 in Athens, Ohio, on Sunday. The four-goal margin was the largest SLU win since a 4-0 triumph over Robert Morris on Sept. 24, 2006.

"We played tremendously well as a team," head coach Marcie Boyer said. "This win is a big boost to the team and gives us confidence that we are a good team. We made some adjustments from our game yesterday, and they paid off today. This is a great way to head into our home opener on Friday against Missouri State.

Freshman Lauren Noe scored off an assist from Frampus in the 22nd minute to give the Billikens the only tally they would need. Gamez scored her first career goal in the 37th minute of action with Frampus providing the helper for a 2-0 SLU lead. Gamez struck again as the Billikens stormed to a 3-0 lead. Just four minutes later, Stephanie Ertzberger scored for the second straight contest as the Billikens built a 4-0 lead. Frampus again picked up an assist, the first time a SLU player had three assists in a game since Keri Brunner recorded a trio of assists against Lindenwood on Oct. 16, 1999.

Sophomore keeper Katherine Deem started in goal for the Billikens and recorded three saves in the first half. Freshman Alex LaBarge took over at intermission and added two more saves to combine on the shutout. The Billikens controlled the flow of the game and peppered the Georgetown cage with 21 shots. In addition, SLU notched nine penalty corners.

The Billikens (1-1) return home for their home opener on Friday, Sept. 5, when they host Missouri State. Game time at Anheuser-Busch Center is 1 p.m.
